A notebook made with traditional Japanese stamp book binding

In June 2024, we launched the highly anticipated new product, “PANORAMA NOTE.” The development took over six months, involving numerous prototypes and creative processing techniques to ensure an affordable price range. This notebook is made using “Goshuincho binding.” While Goshuincho often have 11 folds, this one has 24 folds to serve its purpose as a notebook. The binding process starts with stabilizing the paper.

*A goshuinchō is, if you want to translate it, a “book of seals”. Most shrines and temples in Japan have a goshuin , a seal that belongs only to that institution. As proof of their pilgrimage, visitors who have a goshuinchō pass their book to a shrine official.

Next, the paper is carefully cut to a special size for the processing and then folded into a V shape. After aligning the direction, order, and number of sheets to be glued, a dedicated adhesive is applied with a brush, using techniques that resemble a master’s craftsmanship. Paper products often involve both machines and human hands, but Goshuincho binding relies heavily on the skills of artisans.

The PANORAMA NOTE allows you to spread it out and view your collected Goshuin, as well as write across one page or multiple pages for recording, sketching, or as a travel journal. The paper used is not traditional washi, but high-quality paper typically used for manuscript paper, providing excellent writing quality.

We hope you enjoy using it.
